Maker Faire

" If your family has any interest in art, science, technology, environmental issues or plain inventiveness you will have a great time! "

We went to the Maker Faire with our family last year and had a great time. We decided to let the day just come about naturally and meander. It seemed to be the best approach. There is so much to discover and you never know what is going to fascinate your child. In one afternoon my girls launched a rocket, helped make an art car, made a cool button, played a concert with instruments made out of old toys, danced with a robot, made their first circuit (daddy was so proud), learned to make a geyser (which is now a new Christmas Eve tradition in our family), and learned to combine target practice with art making. Keep in mind this was a year ago so these are only the things I remember doing. I know there was much more.

If your family has any interest in art, science, technology, environmental issues or plain inventiveness you will have a great time! There is kids area but there is also plenty to discover by wandering. This year some exhibits of note are Cryogenic Ice Cream making, Science in the Movies, a Life Sized Mouse trap, Art Doll Making, and Wii modifications.

It is held at the Travis County Fairgrounds so be prepared for walking and weather. Strollers are allowed but outside food is not so plan accordingly. They will allow 1 water bottle per person and will have healthy food options in the Edible Austin Pavillion.
