Our star-spangled Independence Day festival will feature an array of family fun — historical reenactments, live music and a colorful display of independence flags. Red-white-and-blue historical shows, horse rides, hayrides or horse-drawn wagon rides and food are planned on one or both days, along with pie-eating and watermelon seed-spitting contests. The day will be Austin’s version of a midsummer festival, a popular activity in the late 1800s.
